Directives

Write down what you keep telling your agents once, and every session you start already knows it.

Needs sign-in

Where: 🧠→📋 Directives

A directive is a standing instruction. Each pane you start gets your directives before you type anything, so you stop repeating the same corrections. You can share one with a teammate or publish it for the whole guild.

What people write

  • "Our main branch is develop. Never push to main."
  • "Run the unit tests before you say a change is done."
  • For one repository only: "This folder is the EODE model. Don't edit files under generated/."

A good directive is something you've had to say twice. One-off task detail belongs in the prompt.

Add a directive

Open the panel

Click 🧠 in the bottom-right corner, then 📋 Directives. The panel opens on Mine.

Write it

Open Add a directive and type into What should every session already know?

Pick where it applies

every session, or only in one directory and enter the folder's full path. A directory directive also applies in that folder's subfolders.

Tag it (optional) and add it

Type a tag (optional) to group it in the gallery, then click Add.

The panel shows Added — it applies to sessions you start from now on.

Your agents can add directives too, after you correct them. Those rows show 🤖. See What your agents can do on the team.

Change, pause, or remove one

Every row on Mine has four buttons:

ButtonWhat it does
turn off / turn onStops or restarts the directive without deleting it. It stops for everyone who uses it.
EditChange the text, scope, or tag. Click Save. Everyone using it gets the new text.
↦ ShareOffer it to a teammate or publish it; see below.
DeleteClick again on Delete for good? within 4 seconds. It's removed for everyone who uses it.

Click ↻ to pick up a directive an agent or another machine added. The panel also refreshes itself every 30 seconds while it's open.

Share a directive

A directive is yours alone until you share it. Click ↦ Share on the row.

  • Everyone — put it in the gallery publishes it. Anyone in the guild can find it on Gallery and use it. Remove from the gallery takes it out. People already using it keep it.
  • Click a teammate's name, or type in or a handle… and click Offer, to offer it to one person.

An offer does nothing until the other person accepts it. Your row shows what happened: using it, not answered yet, or declined.

Use someone else's

  • Using lists the directives you've accepted. stop using drops one.
  • Offers sit at the top of every tab under Offered to you — these do nothing until you accept. Click Accept or Decline.
  • Gallery lists everything the guild has published. Search with Search what the guild has published…, filter by tag, and click Use this.

If the owner turns a directive off, your Using row says so and the directive does nothing until they turn it back on.

How directives reach your agent

  • A pane gets your directives when it starts, fresh or resumed. Panes already running keep what they started with.
  • Claude Code and Codex both get them. The agent receives them as instructions, so nothing is typed into the pane.
  • A new session on a Griddler Agent gets them too. A directory directive applies there when its path matches the folder on the agent.
  • Your own directives that are turned on, plus the ones you've accepted, all apply. Offers you haven't accepted don't.

Limits

  • About 4,000 characters of directives reach a session. Directives past that are left out.
  • If Griddler can't reach Griddler Social within 3 seconds when a pane starts, that pane starts without directives. Nothing in the pane says so.
  • Older Codex versions don't receive directives. Update Codex if a Codex pane ignores them.
