The Tavern

Chat with the team, see who's online, react to what people shipped, and view teammates' painted characters.

Needs sign-in

Where: Top bar→🍺

The Tavern is the team's room: a chat, a live feed of what everyone is doing in Griddler, and a row of who's around. Everyone signed in to Griddler Social sees the same chat and feed.

Open the Tavern

Click 🍺 in the top bar. A badge on it counts new messages since you last looked; opening the Tavern clears it. Close it with ✕ or Esc.

The Tavern refreshes every minute while it's open.

🍺 shows only while you're signed in. It appears a few seconds after you sign in.

Say something

Type in Say something to the guild… and press Enter or click Send. The whole team sees it, here and on the Guild Hall web page. Messages are text only, up to 240 characters. To share a picture, use mail.

Read the feed

The feed lists what people did, grouped by person and split by day:

  • chat messages (🗨)
  • merged pull requests, with the repository and title
  • level-ups, tower clears and falls in the game
  • shop purchases and closed bug bounties

Everything except chat posts itself. When you're signed in, your own merged pull requests, level-ups and tower runs show up here for the team.

A run of merged pull requests by one person folds into one line. Click ▸ and the count to expand it, ▾ fold to collapse it.

An empty feed shows a quiet line instead, such as The fire crackles. Nobody speaks.

React to a line

Hover a line and click 🍺, 🔥 or 💀. Reactions others added show as chips on the line; click one to add yours. You have one reaction per line; picking another replaces it.

See who's around

The strip at the top has a chip for each teammate, with their picture, name and level. Chips of people active in the last 10 minutes are lit.

  • Click a chip to see that person's painted character. If they haven't painted one, it says hasn't painted a portrait yet.
  • Hover a chip and click 👁 twice to ask to watch one of their panes. See Peek and co-op.

Teammates active in the last 10 minutes also walk along the top bar behind your mascot, with their names, each as their painted character (or their doll, if they haven't painted one). They don't show while the mascot is Hidden.

Check the leaderboard

Under the strip, the top five characters by XP show as 🥇 handle · N xp, marked preview. The strip appears once at least two people are on it. See The game for how XP is earned.

Change the name you show

Settings→Account→Alias, up to 24 characters. It changes your name on your chip, in the feed, and on the top bar right away. The leaderboard and peek requests keep showing your handle.

Paint your character

Open the character sheet from the level chip in the tab row, then click 🎨 Generate Character. Painting takes 15–20 seconds. Teammates see the painting when they click your chip; after the first one the button reads 🎨 Repaint.

Other things in the Tavern

The row above the feed is the shop: your gold, loot boxes, and more. See The game. 🤝 Co-op starts a shared session with a teammate; see Peek and co-op.

Limits

  • Messages are 240 characters, text only.
  • 40 portrait paintings per person per day. After that: Daily portrait cap reached — try tomorrow.
  • Up to 10 teammates walk the top bar at once.
