Mail and sessions
Send a mail or a whole thread into a Claude Code or Codex pane, start a new session for it, or ask what a message wants from you.
Where: Messages→open a message→➤ Session
Send a message, or a whole thread, into a Claude Code or Codex pane in one click. The agent gets the full text and can answer in the same thread. Use it for bug reports, questions about a repo, and anything else an agent can work on.
Send a message to a running pane
Open the message
Click the thread in the Messages panel.
Click ➤ Session
A list of the running panes in the current tab opens under the message. ✳ marks Claude Code panes and ◇ marks Codex panes, each with the pane's title.
Click a pane
Griddler types the message into that pane, submits it, and moves the focus there.
The agent receives the sender, the subject, the message id, and the body, with a line telling it how to reply in the same thread. Each picture shows up as a one-line placeholder; the agent can't see the picture itself.
Click ➤ Session again to close the list without sending.
Send the whole thread
When a thread has more than one message, click ⧉ Sessions instead. It sends every message in the thread, oldest first, including your own replies. Use it when the ask built up over several messages.
Start a new session for a message
Click + New session for this… at the bottom of the pane list. The New Terminal dialog opens with a strip across it: 📬 This session starts with the mail: and the subject.
Pick the agent, folder, model and effort as usual and click Start. A few seconds after the pane starts, Griddler submits the message into it. The Messages panel stays open beside it.
If you tick 🤝 Run this as a co-op campaign in that dialog, the co-op brief takes over and the mail is not sent. Start the co-op, then send the mail with ➤ Session.
Let the agent reply
An agent in a pane you opened after signing in has the team mail tools. Ask it to answer, and its reply lands in the same thread, sent from your account with 🤖 at the start of the subject. The thread row then shows ↩ familiar replied.
Panes opened before you signed in don't have these tools. See Team tools for agents.
Find out what a message is asking
Click ✨ What is this asking? above the body of any message. It reads Reading it… for a few seconds, then shows a one-line summary and what the sender wants:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ASKS YOU | They want you to do something. The ask follows the label. |
| WANTS AN ANSWER | They asked a question. |
| BLOCKED ON YOU | Their work is waiting on you. |
| NO ASK — read at leisure | Nothing is needed from you. |
It runs one small request through Claude Code, on your own usage. The answer is kept until you quit Griddler, so clicking it again costs nothing.
If you see Digest failed: and a reason, click ↻ Retry.
Send mail to a pane from your phone
The Griddler phone app has Send to a session on a message. On the phone it types the message into the pane but does not submit it: the app says Pasted on the pane's input line, not submitted. Press return in the pane when you're ready. On the desktop, ➤ Session submits right away. See Phone and remote.
Limits
- The pane list shows running panes in the current tab only. For anything else, use + New session for this….
- ✨ What is this asking? needs Claude Code installed and signed in, even if you use Codex. It doesn't appear on messages with no text.
- Agents can't see pictures or GIFs in mail.
