Themes and fonts
Reskin Griddler with one of 24 themes, pick the terminal font and size, and hide the menu bar or the mascot.
Where: Settings→Appearance→Theme
A theme colors the terminals and the whole window around them. It applies the moment you pick it, including in popped-out panes.
Try themes on with the Picker
Esc, ✕, or a click outside puts your old theme back. To pick by name instead, use the Theme dropdown next to the Picker.
Hovering a theme reskins the whole window at once, terminals included:
The 24 themes
| Dark | Light |
|---|---|
| Tokyo Night (default), Tokyo Storm, VS Code Dark | Tokyo Day |
| Catppuccin Mocha, Catppuccin Macchiato, Catppuccin Frappé | Catppuccin Latte |
| Rosé Pine, Rosé Moon | Rosé Dawn |
| Solarized Dark | Solarized Light |
| Gruvbox Dark, Gruvbox Hard | Gruvbox Light |
| Dracula, Nord, Kanagawa, Everforest, Monokai | |
| Synthwave (GriddlerOS), Cyberpunk, Matrix |
The green "needs you" border and the amber "working" color come from the theme, so they shift a little from one theme to the next.
Change the terminal font
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal font | Cascadia Code, Consolas, JetBrains Mono, Fira Code, Source Code Pro, or Courier New. | Default (Menlo / Consolas / DejaVu Sans Mono) |
| Terminal font size | 8 to 24. | 12 |
Both apply to new panes. Panes already open keep their font. A font only shows if it's installed on your machine.
Fix slow or garbled drawing
Terminal renderer picks how panes are drawn. It applies to open panes right away.
| Choice | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Auto — GPU when available | Almost always. This is the default. |
| GPU (WebGL) | You want the GPU and nothing else. |
| DOM (compatibility) | Text draws wrong or flickers. It's slower with many busy panes. |
The line under the setting says what's actually drawing, for example N of M panes on the GPU — the rest fell back to DOM (see the log).
Hide the menu bar or the mascot
- Hide the menu bar removes File, Edit, View, and Window. Press Alt to show it for a moment. Windows and Linux only; macOS keeps its menu bar at the top of the screen.
- Topbar mascot sets the character on the top bar: Roaming — walks, dances and sits, Sitting — drag him where you want him, or Hidden. He's your painted character, or its doll until you paint one; see the game. The same character can sit on your desktop as the desktop pet.
