Accounts and usage

Run panes on more than one Claude Code or Codex account, see how much of each plan you've used, and back up your logins.

Claude CodeCodex

Where: Top bar→🎭

Auth profiles holds every Claude Code and Codex login on this machine. The one marked active is what new panes use. Each account shows its usage, so you can see which one has room left.

Add another account

Open 🎭 Auth profiles.
Pick Claude or Codex, type a name in new profile name, e.g. personal, and click Create.
Click Log in… on the new entry. A pane opens on that profile. Log in there once and it stays logged in.

Names use letters, numbers, -, and _. default is taken: it's your normal login. Griddler backs up your logins the first time you create a profile.

Two entries on the same account share one card, marked · matching quota — same account.

Choose which account new panes use

Click set active on an entry. It changes to ● active. While any non-default profile is active, the top-bar button reads 🎭 •.

  • To pick an account for one pane only, use Profile in the launcher.
  • To move a running pane to another account, click its account chip; see The pane toolbar.

Use a setup token for Claude Code

Each Claude Code account has two ways to sign in. The dot picks which one new panes use.

ChoiceWhat you get
● loginYour full account, Fable included. Needs a one-time Log in…
● tokenA saved setup token. No login wait, but no Fable.

To save a token, run claude setup-token in a pane signed in as that account. Then click Add token…, paste it, and press Enter. Replace… swaps it and forget removes it. Switching between the two keeps both. Your normal /login is never touched.

Panes already running on that account keep the sign-in they started with. Their border turns green and their tooltip reads auth changed — restart this pane to use the new token.

Give an account a short name

Type in the alias box on the entry, up to 12 characters, and press Enter or click away. The alias shows on pane chips, in the account switcher, and on the usage strip. Empty shows the full name.

This isn't your Tavern name. That's Alias in Settings→Account.

Read your usage

The usage strip sits at the right end of the tab row. It has one chip per agent and one segment per account. The active account comes first, marked ●.

  • Each bar is one usage window: 5h, wk, or a per-model weekly window.
  • Bars turn warm at 70% and hot at 90%.
  • Hover for the percentage, when it resets, and when it was last read. Click to open Auth profiles.
  • api means pay-per-use billing with no plan windows. no reading means nothing's been read yet.
  • As the tab row fills up, the strip shrinks to active accounts only, then hides.

Usage refreshes by itself. Accounts you're using update within the hour; idle ones about every 2 hours. The check runs briefly in the background and doesn't use quota. To read every account now, click ↻ Refresh usage. To turn automatic checks off, clear Settings→Account→Auto-refresh usage gauges.

Hide Codex on this machine

Click Hide on this machine on the Codex heading. Codex leaves the launcher, the usage strip, the Doctor, and search. Codex itself isn't changed. Click Show to bring it back.

Back up your logins

Click Backup auth. The button reads ✓ backed up when it's done. Each backup is a folder under ~/.griddler/backups/ with a restore script inside. Griddler keeps the newest 10.

A backup holds your logins in plain text. Don't copy it anywhere shared.

To restore, close Griddler and every Claude Code and Codex session, then run the restore script in the backup folder.

Limits

  • Backups cover your default Claude Code and Codex logins only, not extra profiles.
  • ✕ removes a profile from the list. Its login folder stays on disk.
  • Setting ANTHROPIC_API_KEY or CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR in your shell doesn't change which account a pane uses. Use profiles.
  • The resets row, how many usage resets an account has available, shows only when the agent reports it. In practice that's Codex only.
