Griddler docs

Put a web page in the grid

Keep a dashboard, pull request or local dev server open beside your panes, and let agents read and drive it when you say so.

Where: Empty tileโ†’๐ŸŒ

A web cell is a browser tile in the grid. It sits beside your panes, moves and resizes like them, and comes back when you restart Griddler. Agents in your panes can read and click it, but only after you switch that on.

Open a web cell

Click ๐ŸŒ on an empty tile, or on the empty half of a split. The tile turns into a web cell showing https://eode.app. No dialog opens.

To go somewhere else, type an address or a search in the cell's address bar and press Enter.

To get an empty tile, see Arrange the grid.

These docs open in a web cell too. Click the open-book button in the top bar, or any ? or docs link in a dialog; see Help inside the app.

Use the header

What the address bar accepts

  • Anything that isn't an address, like quarterly revenue, becomes a DuckDuckGo search.
  • Public sites must use HTTPS. A bare example.com gets https:// added for you.
  • Plain HTTP works only on your own network: localhost, 127.0.0.1, LAN addresses like 192.168.1.20, and names ending in .local, .lan or .internal. These default to http://.
  • Local files (file:) are refused. Click the file's path in a pane instead; see Open files and links.
  • Addresses with a username or password in them (https://user:pass@โ€ฆ) are refused.

Let agents drive the page

Click ๐Ÿค– off in the cell's header. It changes to ๐Ÿค– plus the cell's name, like ๐Ÿค– w3fa9c1. Agents in this grid can now read, click, type into and screenshot that page, and they address it by that name. Click it again to turn it off.

  • Consent is per cell and off for every new cell.
  • It covers the site you were on when you clicked. If the page moves to a different site, whether you clicked a link or an agent did, it switches off and says Agent control turned off because the site changed. Look at the new page, then turn it on again.
  • With Settingsโ†’Panes & startupโ†’Bypass permissions by default (dangerous) on, consent follows the page to other sites instead of switching off.

What agents can do with the page is on Agent tools.

How it's kept separate from your browser

  • It's Griddler's own browser, not your Chrome. None of your Chrome profile, saved logins, bookmarks or extensions are there.
  • Sites you sign in to inside a web cell stay signed in, but only inside Griddler. Every web cell shares those logins, and your real browser never sees them.
  • Pop-up windows are blocked.
  • Browser tools that drive your real Chrome can't see web cells.

When a page doesn't show

The header shows a short note instead of the page:

NoteTry
could not load โ€” โ€ฆCheck the address. The text after the dash is the browser's own error.
the page process stopped โ€” reload to try againClick โŸณ.
the browser view never started โ€” no page was requestedType an address in the address bar and press Enter.
the browser view never attached (see griddler.log)Close the cell and open it again. The reason is in the log; see Find the log files.
Use HTTPS. Plain HTTP is allowed only on your own network (loopback, LAN, mesh).Type https:// in front, or use a private address.

Limits

  • The address, the cell's name and the ๐Ÿค– setting are saved with the tab. After a restart the page loads fresh from that address.
  • Popping a cell out with โ‡ฑ, or bringing it back, reloads the page.
