Tabs and presets
Keep separate grids in tabs, save a grid as a preset you can reload, and pick up every pane where you left it after a restart.
Where: Tab row
Each tab is its own grid of panes, so you can keep one tab per project or task. Griddler saves every tab as you work and brings them all back when you relaunch.
Work with tabs
- Add a tab with + at the end of the tab row. New tabs are named Grid 2, Grid 3, and so on.
- Rename a tab by double-clicking it. Enter saves, Esc cancels.
- Switch by clicking a tab. Panes in other tabs keep running.
- Close with the tab's ✕. If it has running panes, Griddler asks first; click Close the tab. The sessions stay resumable. The last tab can't be closed.
A tab's dot turns amber while one of its panes works and green when one needs you; see Know when a pane needs you.
| Shortcut | Does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Shift+1…9 (⌘+1…9 on macOS) | Go to tab 1–9 |
| Ctrl/⌘+Shift+↑ / ↓ | Previous / next tab |
Pick up where you left off
Close Griddler with panes running and reopen it: every tab comes back.
- The tab you were on restarts its panes and resumes each session.
- Other tabs show a ▷ tile per pane. Click one to bring it back. Nothing starts until you click.
- An empty tab comes back too, with its name, as long as at least one tab had something in it.
| The tile reads | Comes back as | Tooltip |
|---|---|---|
| ▷ and the session's name or folder | The pane, resuming its session | Resume and the name, agent and model |
| ▷ 🌐 and the site, like ▷ 🌐 eode.app | A web cell on that page | Reopen and the address |
| ▷ Reconnect · the machine · the session | A pane on a Griddler Agent, reconnected. The session kept running there. | Reconnect to the session and the agent |
To restart every pane in every tab at launch instead, turn on Settings→Panes & startup→Relaunch every session at startup.
Griddler also remembers the window's size and position.
Save a layout as a preset
A preset saves the current tab: its shape plus each pane's agent, folder, model, and session.
- Click 🧰 ▾ in the top bar.
- Click 💾 Save current layout….
- Type a Name (for example,
Maestro morning) and click Save.
Load or delete a preset
Click 🧰 ▾ and pick a preset. It replaces the current tab only. If panes are running, Griddler asks first; click Replace it. The closed sessions stay resumable.
To delete a preset, click the ✕ beside its name.
Open a pair tab
New pair… in the tab row opens two Claude Code panes side by side in a new tab: an auditor on the left (audit / next-step) and an implementer on the right. Pick one Repository, then a Model, Effort, and Session for each side, and click Create pair.
In a pair tab:
- Each pane wears its role, plus a finished chip saying how long ago its last turn ended.
- → partner sends your selection, or the last response, to the other pane. Selecting text also shows a send to partner ▸ chip.
- ⇄ on the tab swaps the two roles.
Limits
- A preset replaces one tab. It never touches your other tabs.
- Pair tabs run Claude Code only and stay fixed at two panes.
