Know when a pane needs you

See at a glance which pane is waiting on you, get a desktop notification when you're elsewhere, and jump straight to it.

Where: Any pane→border

Griddler watches every pane. When an agent finishes a turn or asks permission, the pane's border turns green, its tab's dot lights up, and you get a notification if you're in another app.

Green: your turn. Amber: still working

Read the colors

You seeIt means
Amber borderThe agent is working: output is still coming.
Green, pulsing borderThe agent finished, or it needs your permission.
Amber dot on a tabA pane in that tab is working.
Green, pulsing dot on a tabA pane in that tab needs you.

The exact shades follow your theme.

Press Enter in the pane to clear the green. Clicking the pane or typing without sending leaves it lit, so a pane you glanced at still shows as waiting.

Get precise signals from Claude Code

Until Claude Code's hooks are set up, a banner at the top of the window asks Enable precise task lifecycle signals? Click Enable. Griddler adds three hooks to your Claude Code settings and backs the file up first. ✕ hides the banner until the next launch.

With the hooks on, Claude Code panes turn green the moment a turn ends (finished — waiting on you) or a permission prompt appears (needs your permission).

Without them, Griddler guesses: a pane that worked for more than a few seconds and then went quiet turns green with went quiet — probably waiting on you. Codex panes always work this way.

If the hooks stop working, open Doctor (the stethoscope) and click Repair attention hooks. See Doctor.

Watch a pane on a Griddler Agent

A pane running on a Griddler Agent turns green the same way, and notifies you the same way. The signal comes from the agent's own report, so it arrives a few seconds after the agent finishes.

Get a desktop notification

When a pane turns green and Griddler isn't the window you're in, you get a system notification with the pane's name and the reason. Click it to bring Griddler forward on that pane. On macOS the Dock icon bounces too.

Turn it off in Settings→Notifications→Pane waiting on you. Mute all silences every kind.

Jump to the pane that's waited longest

Press Ctrl+Shift+J (⌘+Shift+J on macOS). Griddler switches to the right tab and puts your cursor in the pane that has been green the longest. Press it again after you answer to move to the next one.

Limits

  • Notifications only fire while Griddler isn't the focused window. When you're already in Griddler, the border and tab dot are the signal.
  • The precise signals are Claude Code only. Codex has no hooks, so its panes always use the quiet-after-work guess.
