Arrange the grid
Add, split, resize, and swap panes, stack a tab in columns, and pop a pane out into its own window.
Where: Gridโedge + buttons
The grid holds your panes. Each tab has its own grid, and Griddler saves its shape as you change it.
Add a tile
| Button | Tooltip | Does |
|---|---|---|
| + on the right edge | Add column | Adds one tile to the row of the pane you're in, or to the last row. |
| + on the bottom edge | Add row | Adds a new full-width row with one tile. |
Click + in the new tile to start a session; see Start or resume a session. Or click ๐ (Open a browser here (https://eode.app โ change the address in the cell)) to put a web page there instead; see Put a web page in the grid.
To remove an empty tile, click its โ (Remove this tile). The rest of the row closes the gap. The last tile in a tab can't be removed.
Split a tile
An empty tile has โข (Split this cell side by side) and โฃ (Split this cell top and bottom). A split divides that one tile and leaves its neighbours alone.
Each empty half offers โท (Start a session here), โข, โฃ, ๐, and โ (Close this cell). Splits can nest as deep as you like. When a split is down to one pane, it becomes a plain tile again.
Only empty tiles can be split, so split first and then start sessions in the halves.
Resize
Drag the gap between two panes. Only those two change size. Double-click a gap to make that whole row or column even; inside a split, double-clicking evens just that split.
To reset every tile in the tab to equal size, Shift-click โ .
Stack a tab in columns
Click โ at the top of the right edge. The tab switches from rows to columns, and the button reads โ. In columns, one pane can be full height beside a stack of others. Click again to go back to rows.
In columns, Add column and Add row swap roles. The switch applies to the current tab only.
Move or swap panes
Drag a pane by its Claude or Codex badge:
- Drop it on another pane to swap the two.
- Drop it on an empty + tile to move it there.
- Drop it on a โท tile waiting to resume, and they swap places.
The target tile outlines itself when a drop will work. Nothing restarts.
Pop a pane into its own window
Click โฑ in the pane header. The pane opens in its own window with the same live session: nothing restarts. Its tile in the grid reads โค plus the pane's name, and in its own window.
To bring it back, click โค Back to grid in the window, close the window, or click the tile it left behind.
A web cell popped out the same way reloads its page on the way out and on the way back.
When Griddler asks where to put a new pane
If something needs a new tile and the grid is full, Griddler shows Choose where to create a new cell and the edge + buttons pulse. Click one, or click Cancel (or press Esc).
Limits
- A popped-out pane is a plain terminal. Clean copy, copy on select, right-click paste, image paste, clickable file links, and Shift+Enter for a new line only work in the grid.
- Popped-out panes can't be dragged to swap.
- A pane can't be dropped into the empty half of a split; drop it on a full tile.
- Pair tabs are fixed at two panes side by side, so Add column, Add row, and โ are hidden there.
