Copy and paste

Copy clean text out of a pane, paste images into one, rewrite an answer for Teams or email, and hand text to another pane.

Where: Pane headerβ†’πŸ“‹ β–Ύ

Text you copy from a pane comes out clean: box drawing, bullets like ⏺ and ❯, and the agent's hard line wraps are stripped, so a command or paragraph pastes the way you'd type it. The πŸ“‹ β–Ύ menu adds rich copies of the last answer and a way to pass text to another pane.

Copy from a pane

Do thisYou get
Drag across textIt's copied, cleaned, as soon as you let go, even while the agent is using the mouse.
Ctrl+C with text selectedA clean copy. The highlight clears, so the next Ctrl+C interrupts the agent.
Ctrl+C with nothing selectedInterrupts the agent, as in any terminal.
⌘+C (macOS)A clean copy. The highlight stays.
Ctrl/⌘+Shift+CA clean copy, in either clipboard mode.
Right-clickCopies the selection, or pastes when nothing is selected.

Commands the agent ran come out as the bare command: ⏺ Bash(npm test) copies as npm test.

Paste into a pane

Press Ctrl/⌘+V. On Windows and Linux, Ctrl+Shift+V, Shift+Insert and middle-click paste too.

To paste an image, copy a screenshot and paste it. Griddler saves it as a picture file and pastes the file's path, which Claude Code and Codex both read as an attachment.

In a Claude Code pane, Shift+Enter adds a line break to your prompt without sending it.

Copy the last answer, or rewrite it for Teams or email

Open πŸ“‹ β–Ύ in the pane header.

ItemWhat it does
Clean selectionSame clean copy as the keys.
Last response (rich)Copies the agent's last answer with bold, lists and headings intact for Outlook or Teams.
As Teams messageRewrites your selection, or the last answer if nothing is selected, as a chat message and copies it.
As email draftSame, as an email. The result starts with a Subject: line.
Send to pane β†’Hands the text to another pane. See below.

The two rewrites take a few seconds; the button shows … while it works. They need Claude Code installed, even in a Codex pane.

Send text to another pane

Select text in a pane, or select nothing to use its last answer.

Choose πŸ“‹ β–Ύ β†’ Send to pane β†’. Every other pane shows click to send here.

Click the pane that should get it. The text lands in that pane's prompt without being sent, so you can edit it first. Esc cancels.

Choose Modern or Classic clipboard keys

Settings→Panes & startup→Clipboard & keys
  • Modern (default): everything above.
  • Classic: a plain terminal. No copy on drag, Ctrl+C always interrupts, right-click and middle-click do nothing, and Shift+Enter sends. Ctrl/⌘+Shift+C and paste still work.

The change applies to open panes right away.

If a key does something unexpected, open Doctor. It flags personal Claude Code or Codex keybindings that clash with these.

Limits

  • A pane keeps its last 10,000 lines. Older output can't be scrolled back to or copied.
  • A code line that exactly fills the pane's width is joined onto the line below it in a clean copy.
  • A pane opened in its own window with ⇱ is a plain terminal: none of the copy, paste or image rules apply there. See Arrange the grid.
  • Last response (rich) shows No assistant response in this session yet. until the agent has answered once.
