Open files and links from a pane

Click a file path, URL, pull request or work item an agent prints and read it without leaving Griddler.

Where: Any pane→hover over a path or link

When an agent prints a file path, a URL, or a reference like PR #1234, it underlines when you hover. Click it. Markdown, code, web pages, PDFs, images and folders open in a viewer inside Griddler. Everything else opens in the app your computer normally uses.

What you can click

Text in the paneClick opens
A .md fileThe markdown viewer, rendered.
A code or text file, with or without :lineThe source viewer, scrolled to that line and highlighted.
An .html, .svg, .pdf or image fileA preview inside Griddler.
A folder pathThe folder viewer.
An Office file, zip, installer, video or audio fileYour default app for that file type.
https://…, localhost:3000, or a bare host like example.comYour default browser.
PR #1234, pull request 1234The pull request, in the repository's Azure DevOps or GitHub.
work item 1234, WI 1234, AB#1234The work item in Azure DevOps.
PLAN-123The Jira issue.

Paths are read relative to the pane's repository, and ~ means your home folder. Line numbers work in the forms agents print them: app.py:1706, app.py:1706:5, app.py(1706), app.py#L1706. A path the agent wrapped across two lines still opens.

Some agents print a link as underlined words instead of an address. Clicking one opens it in your default browser.

Open in your own app or file browser instead

ClickDoes
Ctrl/⌘+click on a pathOpens the file in its default app.
Shift+click on a pathShows the file in Explorer, Finder or your file manager.

Move around the viewer

The viewer works like a small browser. Links inside a markdown file open in the viewer; web links open in your browser.

ControlDoes
‹ / ›Back and forward. Also Alt+← / Alt+→, ⌘+[ / ⌘+] on macOS, or your mouse's back and forward buttons.
✕Closes the viewer. Esc does the same.
☾ Dark / ☀ LightIn a web or image preview, shows a light page dark. Griddler remembers your choice. PDFs always show as written.
↗ Default appOpens the previewed file in its default app.
↗ Explorer / ↗ Finder / ↗ FilesIn the folder viewer, opens the folder in your file browser.

In the folder viewer, folders are listed first and .. goes up one level. Clicking a file opens it the same way as clicking its path in a pane.

Limits

  • Text files over 2 MB show File too large to preview. Use Ctrl/⌘+click instead.
  • The folder viewer lists 500 entries, then says …and N more. Use ↗ Explorer (or ↗ Finder, ↗ Files) to see the rest.
  • Jira links work for PLAN- keys only.
  • PR # and work item links need the pane's repository to have an Azure DevOps or GitHub remote. Without one you see No Azure DevOps or GitHub remote in ….
  • Text you're typing in the agent's prompt box is never turned into links.
  • A pane opened in its own window with ⇱ has no clickable links. See Arrange the grid.
